Gower Electric's partnership with Ecotricity.
In 2020 Gower Electric teamed up with Ecotricty to help offer affordable green energy to households in the Swansea Gower area. Since then the partnership has allowed around 175 households to benefit from clean locally produced electricity. We still have space for 100 more houses that we'd love to fill.
How does it work?
People living in Swansea postcode areas can get green energy through Gower Electric, in partnership with Ecotricity, and be part of Wales’ first community owned sun park in Dunvant.
Dunvant sun park
The park is made up of 3,568 solar panels across the four-acre site, with a capacity of 1 MW. It’s been generating green energy since March 2017, with onsite battery storage able to store up to 250,000 kWh too.
By signing up to Ecotricity through Gower Electric, you become a customer of both companies – whilst you get some green energy from the Dunvant sun park, managed by Gower Electric, your energy account and bills are managed by Ecotricity.
Gower Electric differ from Ecotricity as we use our profits differently.
Gower Electric
Gower Electric customers can choose where the project’s surplus profits go. Each August, you can either have your portion of the profit added to your energy bill or you can give some or all of it to charity. For context, last year customers had an average of £270 off their bills, with a total of £35,000 going back into the community – that's amazing!
Ecotricity
Ecotricity is Britain’s greenest energy company, offering electricity and green gas. Ecotricity have a brilliant scheme called Bills into Mills, let me tell you some more about it.
Bills into Mills
Ecotricity's profits are spent differently to other energy companies, the profits are used to build new forms of green energy such as windmills or solar parks. This way Ecotricity is progressively combatting the reliance on fossil fuels.
So far Ecotricity have built 24 wind parks and 74 windmills across Britian. Check out their website to see the progress that they are making!

Green Gas
Gower Electric do not offer gas but Ecotricity do AND it's 100% green! Their 2022 report on powering Britain using green gasmills shows exactly how they can do it without taking away land for food production.
The report demonstrates, that green gas can power both homes and businesses – and it’s much cheaper and faster than making everyone convert to heat pumps.
